Let’s preserve peace, harmony in Kwara

We observed in shock how widespread peaceful protests against police brutality in Nigeria have suddenly become violent and an exercise against national security and peace by some miscreants.

On Friday, some group of persons better referred as thugs under the guise of same #EndSARS protests headed to the cargo terminal in Ilorin, the state capital, to fleece the remaining palliatives meant for the poor and vulnerable people in the state.

What happened is a misnomer. This terrible incidence of looting the palliatives donated by CACOVID to the poor and attacks on private businesses has no justification and it is discouraged. The role of the Nigerian citizens to society is to serve and contribute to the growth and not to impoverish it.

We condole with the Government, people and owners of the businesses attacked, and those who were mentally disturbed and, or, were physically injured. We encourage an immediate investigation into the breakdown of law and order and that a report is presented to the public in no distant future.

We want to urge for patriotism and love for the state and the people even as we go about expressing democratic desires. We all must agree that the state needs healing now not conflicts. It is a historic moment to shower it with love and care to nourish its potential for growth and development. So, it is essential as we cry, never to lose the sight of the picture. Kwara is the State of Harmony. Let’s dwell in love and unity.
