The facility, located in Ogwashi-Uku, will include a 1,500-tonne-per-day poultry feed mill, a 300-tonne-per-day aqua feed mill and storage infrastructure, with operations expected to commence in 2027.

Olam Agri, a leading agribusiness operating across the food, feed and fibre value chains, has commenced construction of a $70 million integrated feed mill in Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State, in a move aimed at expanding Nigeria’s animal feed production capacity and strengthening the agricultural value chain.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, marks a significant expansion of the company’s investment in Nigeria’s agricultural sector and its animal feed operations across West Africa.

The facility, being developed on 99.99 hectares of land acquired by the company, will comprise a poultry feed mill with a production capacity of 1,500 tonnes per day, an aqua feed mill capable of producing 300 tonnes daily, and silo bag storage facilities with a capacity of 125,000 tonnes. The project is expected to be completed and become operational in 2027.

Strategically positioned to serve customers across Nigeria’s South-South and South-East regions, the facility is designed to improve access to quality animal feed for poultry farmers, aquaculture operators, livestock producers and other agricultural businesses.

It is also expected to reduce the regions’ dependence on feed supplies transported from the South-West, thereby improving distribution efficiency, product availability and responsiveness to farmers’ needs.

Dignitaries at the groundbreaking ceremony included Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori; Deputy Governor, Sir Monday John Onyeme; the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, His Royal Majesty, Obi Ifechukwudi Okonjo II; and the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Barr. Ada Val Arenyeka, among other government officials and stakeholders.Speaking at the event, Amit Agarwal, Senior Vice President and Business Head of Integrated Feeds and Proteins at Olam Agri in Nigeria, said the investment reflected the company’s confidence in Nigeria’s agricultural potential and its commitment to strengthening local production capacity.

According to him, building a resilient food system requires sustained investment in production, infrastructure and partnerships connecting farmers, businesses and consumers.

He explained that establishing production facilities closer to customers in the South-South and South-East would improve access to quality animal feed, enhance livestock farmers’ productivity and contribute to a more efficient and competitive livestock sector.

Agarwal also acknowledged the support of the Delta State Government, traditional institutions and other stakeholders in facilitating the project.

He said the company looked forward to working with the government, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku and the host community to ensure the investment delivers meaningful and sustainable benefits.

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori described the project as an important investment with the potential to stimulate economic activities, generate employment and strengthen agricultural value chains in the state.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating an enabling business environment, attracting credible investors and unlocking opportunities across the agricultural sector.

Oborevwori said the project would contribute to economic development by expanding productive capacity and creating opportunities for businesses and residents.

Also speaking, the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku, Obi Ifechukwudi Okonjo II, welcomed the investment, noting that it presented opportunities for the host community and the wider state.

The traditional ruler said the community was particularly interested in ensuring that residents actively participated in the employment and other economic opportunities arising from the project.

He pledged the community’s support for the development, expressing optimism that the partnership with Olam Agri would be built on trust, mutual respect and shared prosperity.

At the corporate level, Sharad Gupta, President and Global Head of Integrated Feed and Protein at Olam Agri, said the project aligned with the company’s renewed investment drive and would significantly expand its production capacity.

He explained that the combination of dedicated poultry and aquaculture feed production lines and substantial storage infrastructure would strengthen supply chains and improve the availability of quality feed to farmers.

Gupta added that the investment would support the growth of Nigeria’s poultry, livestock and aquaculture industries, ultimately contributing to increased domestic production of animal protein.

He noted that Africa’s growing population would continue to drive demand across the agricultural value chain, requiring greater investment in industrialisation, manufacturing infrastructure, product innovation, sustainability and human capital development.

According to him, Olam Agri is pursuing these priorities through strategic acquisitions and investments aimed at expanding its operational capabilities, strengthening its market presence and delivering sustainable long-term value across the continent.

The Delta project also aligns with the Federal Government’s priorities on food security, access to affordable protein, agricultural transformation, local manufacturing, employment generation and increased domestic production capacity.

Olam Agri already operates animal feed mills, poultry breeding farms, a hatchery producing day-old chicks and a soybean crushing facility in Nigeria.

The company has also introduced ruminant feed brands designed to help livestock farmers improve productivity and strengthen the country’s livestock value chain.

The new integrated feed mill will further expand its operational footprint in Nigeria, reinforcing its role in the country’s agricultural and food production ecosystem.

As Nigeria intensifies efforts to improve food self-sufficiency and strengthen domestic agricultural production, investments in modern infrastructure, technology and local manufacturing are increasingly important to building a more productive, resilient and sustainable food system.
