MultiChoice Nigeria Clarifies Ownership Structure, Reaffirms Local Operational Autonomy Under Canal + Group
Speaking on the company’s corporate architecture, Kemi Omotosho, Chief Executive Officer of MultiChoice Nigeria, explained that while the business operates as part of an international group, its leadership, strategy, and daily operations remain firmly rooted in Nigeria.
Following the acquisition by CANAL+, a global media conglomerate headquartered in France with operations across 70 countries, MultiChoice Nigeria operates with full autonomy to make decisions that directly reflect the economic realities and consumer needs of the Nigerian market.
“Since September 2025, MultiChoice has been part of CANAL+, a global media and entertainment group,” said Omotosho. “MultiChoice Nigeria operates as part of that global group, but our business here remains firmly focused on Nigeria, our customers, our people, our partners, and our local creative industry.”
Omotosho noted that misconceptions often arise regarding where key operational decisions are made. She emphasised that pricing, content strategies, channel packaging, and distribution frameworks for products like DStv and GOtv are developed locally by an executive team that understands local market dynamics.
“The advantage of being part of a global group is that we can draw on ideas, technology, and experience from other markets and adapt what works for Nigeria,” Omotosho stated. “Equally, when we develop something successful here, there is an opportunity for other markets to learn from us. The principle is quite simple: we think globally, but we act locally.”
She added that combining global scale with local market execution strengthens the operator’s ability to navigate macroeconomic challenges while investing in authentic Nigerian content, infrastructure, and domestic talent development.
