Manchester City and Inter Milan will lock horns this Saturday at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, for the coveted UEFA Champions League trophy.
Both clubs are meeting for the first time, with the biggest prize in club football on the line. City are close to a historic treble after completing a Premier League and FA Cup double, while Inter Milan are eyeing a cup double, having won the Coppa Italia. The match will be live on Football Finals pop-up channel (GOtv ch 65).
This is City’s second Champions League final in three years. They will be keen to add European silverware to their collections, after losing their first final to Chelsea in 2021. Also, City’s manager, Pep Guardiola is hoping to win a third Champions League, having previously lifted the trophy in 2009 and 2011 with Barcelona.
Speaking after his team defeated Real Madrid to qualify for the final “When you reach the final of the Champions League, you have to celebrate. A final against an Italian team is not always the best gift, honestly. Inter are competitive. After this [semi-final] victory there will be a lot of compliments, but we have time to prepare mentally.”
Inter Milan have won the Champions League on three occasions and their most recent victory came under Jose Mourinho in 2010. Simeone Inzaghi’s men can draw inspiration from Mourinho’s men who defeated Guardiola’s Barcelona in the semifinal before overcoming Bayern Munich in the final.
“For us it was a dream but we have always believed in it. I’m proud to be here. Nobody has given us anything, we deserve everything that we have achieved. And now the dream to play in the final has come true. It has been an extraordinary path and winning a derby in the semi-final brought particular satisfaction,” Inzaghi said after his team defeated AC Milan to progress to the final.
