The contest for the House of Representatives seat in Owan Federal Constituency has taken a sharper political dimension as House of Reps aspirant, Hon. Abdulkudus Isah, openly criticized the performance of the incumbent lawmaker, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, describing his tenure as lacking in impactful development across the constituency.

A major pillar of Isah’s campaign message is the long-standing “gentleman’s agreement” on power rotation between Owan East and Owan West. According to the aspirant, political fairness demands that Owan East, which he described as the majority bloc in terms of voting strength, should produce the next representative.

He maintained that since the majority axis is not seeking a third consecutive term, it would be politically unjustifiable for the minority axis to retain the position for another tenure. Isah presented his ambition as part of a broader effort to restore equity, inclusion, and political balance within the federal constituency.

The NDC aspirant also expressed confidence in his electoral chances, citing the voting strength of his home ward, which he claimed consistently produces between 4,000 and 5,000 votes during elections. He said the growing support for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) across the constituency would neutralize any perceived advantage enjoyed by the ruling party.

Isah further argued that the people of Owan are yearning for a representative who is more accessible and actively connected to the grassroots. He suggested that the electorate is prepared to embrace leadership that prioritizes direct engagement and visible community presence.

As part of efforts to strengthen the NDC structure ahead of the elections, the aspirant disclosed that plans are already underway to establish a functional party secretariat in Owan West. According to him, he has directed the party chairman in the area to secure an office space, which he pledged to finance personally as a demonstration of commitment to building a formidable opposition platform.

While focusing strongly on the general election, Isah acknowledged that he must first scale through the party’s primary election, where he is expected to face Barrister Tunji Aruya and Pharmacist Johnson Erayanmen in a three-way contest.

Despite describing both aspirants as credible contenders, Isah insisted that widespread support across several wards has placed him in a commanding position ahead of the primary. He expressed strong optimism about clinching the party’s ticket and ultimately securing victory in the general election.
