Ogun to approve building permits within seven days

The Ogun State government has reorganised the planning permit process in the state to enable applicants get their building approvals within seven days, Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Olatunji Odunlami, has said.

The commissioner, who said this while speaking with newsmen in Abeokuta, noted that many residents felt that “the process of obtaining planning permits is cumbersome and expensive which makes them to erect their buildings haphazardly and without necessary professional supervision.”

He said “the practice violates the State Planning Law and Regulations.”

Odunlami said the process of obtaining planning permits had been made easy, adding that any person intending to build in the state could obtain their building permits within seven days.

He said: “It is important to obtain planning permits and building clearances before starting any construction work, as the present administration is determined to make the state well organised, habitable and prevent poorly built houses and building collapse.”

He urged citizens of the state to obey town planning and building regulations, while appealing to them and other stakeholders to cooperate with the government in its desire to achieve a safe and good environment by alerting the town planning offices nearest to them when they see any building construction or dangerous building anywhere in the state.

He hinted that Home-owner Charter applicants who could not receive their building plan approvals during the last administration would be contacted soon to collect them as the ministry is set to release approvals to all those who have met all the conditions.
