FAAN Explains Max Air Plane Incident at Kano Airport
A Max Air Boeing 737 aircraft experienced a nose wheel landing gear collapse and a rear tire burst while landing at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on January 28, 2025. Fortunately, all 53 passengers and 6 crew members on board were unharmed.
According to a press statement released by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the incident occurred at 22:50 Hrs, and emergency services responded promptly to manage the situation. The aircraft was towed to Bay 5 for further investigation, which is currently ongoing by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) to determine the root cause of the incident.
“The runway was opened at 08:00hrs, after cleaning, and normal flight operations have resumed,” stated Mrs. Obiageli Orah, Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN.
The prompt response of emergency services and the effective management of the incident have been commended. The investigation by the NSIB is expected to provide more insight into the cause of the incident and recommend measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
The safety of passengers and crew is of utmost importance, and the aviation industry will be closely following the outcome of the investigation. For now, normal flight operations have resumed at MAKIA, and passengers can expect minimal disruptions to their travel plans.
