A Life of Service Crowned in Faith: Evang. Dr. Olatoke Olasunkanmi Olawale Installed as 4th Baba Ijo of The African Church, Holy Trinity Parish, Sango Ibadan
In a deeply moving ceremony held on Saturday, September 6th, the African Church, Holy Trinity Parish, Sango, Ibadan, witnessed the installation of Evang. Dr. Olatoke Olasunkanmi Olawale as its 4th Baba Ijo—a spiritual milestone that crowns a life defined by unwavering faith, public service, and generational impact.
Born on November 30th, 1937, into the devout Christian household of Late Pa James Akande Olawale and Late Mrs. Mary Anike Olawale in Ikirun, Osun State, Evang. Olawale’s journey began with humble roots and a fierce determination to pursue education against all odds. From a late start in primary school to earning a B.Sc. in Economics from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), his academic path was marked by brilliance and resilience.
career spanned decades of service in education and civil administration, including pivotal roles in the Oyo and Osun State governments. As Director of Personnel at the Office of the Accountant General, he pioneered reforms that transformed staff welfare and productivity. He also shared his expertise as a part-time lecturer at The Polytechnic, Ibadan.
But beyond the corridors of government, Evang. Olawale’s heart beat strongest for the Kingdom. A lifelong servant of The African Church, he held numerous leadership roles—from Church Auditor to Vice Lay President of the Ikirun Diocese. His anointing as Evangelist in 1996 marked a new chapter of spiritual devotion, culminating in a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and years of impactful ministry.
His installation as Baba Ijo is not just a ceremonial honor—it is a recognition of a life poured out in service to God and humanity. Speaking to National Monitor Media, Evang. Olawale expressed gratitude to God for counting him worthy of the role.
His children, in a heartfelt tribute, celebrated their father’s legacy:
“Your commitment, faith, and heart for God’s work have prepared you for this responsibility… The Oil of God upon your life will never run dry.”Married to his beloved wife Abigail Mosunmola since 1967, their union of 58 years has been a beacon of love, unity, and spiritual nurture. Together, they’ve raised a family rooted in godliness and compassion.
From his days as a Boy Scout and Red Cross volunteer to his leadership in the African Lads and Lasses Brigade, Evang. Olawale’s life has been a tapestry of service, humility, and grace.As he steps into this new spiritual assignment, the congregation and community alike rejoice in the elevation of a man whose life story is a sermon in itself.
